Aditya Jha CM is a Nepalese Canadian[1] entrepreneur and alleged philanthropist. He also runs several philanthropic initiatives through his Private Charitable Foundation (POA Educational Foundation).[2]
Early life
Aditya Jha was born to a Nepalese father[3][4]
Career and business interests
He started his career in India and then subsequently worked in Singapore, Australia and South East Asian countries.[5] He migrated to Canada in late 1994 and joined Bell Canada, later becoming a General Manager. Aditya acquired Allan Candy/Cadbury Adams Canada in or around 2008[6]
dgMarket International Inc - International Tenders & E-Procurement
In January 2017, Jha acquired dgMarket International Inc from Development Gateway. dgMarket is the oldest and one of the largest portal for tenders and consulting opportunities worldwide, with solicitations from national governments and international donor agencies.[7] It was created in 2001, as a part of Development Gateway (DG) at the initiative of the World Bank in an effort to enhancing the reach, transparency, and effectiveness of International procurement in economic improvement round the arena.[8] dgMarket integrates about 1 million procurement notices per year, covering about $1 trillion tender opportunities.[9]
Philanthropic interests
Educational projects in Canada
Mr. Jha provided three scholarships at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) from 2007-2012[10] and has an endowment at Trent University co-sponsored by the provincial government’s Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) program. [11]
Projects promoting entrepreneurship in Canada
Jha was the brains behind a pilot project named Project Beyshick initiative in 2005[12][13] and 2009[14]
Philanthropic work in Nepal
Mr. Jha distributed 15 laptops to Ani Choying & Nun's Welfare Foundation in 2008.[15][16]
Philanthropic work in India
In the past, Jha has chaired the India AIDS Campaign, within UNICEF Canada's Unite For Children, Unite Against Aids campaign.[17]
Public affairs interests
From November 16–18, 2009 he accompanied Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to India as one of the seven members of his Canadian delegation.[18]
Awards, recognition and appointments
On December 30, 2012, Aditya was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada by Governor General David Johnston. His citation read, "for his achievements in business and for his commitment to promoting education and entrepreneurial opportunities for Aboriginal and disadvantaged youth".[19]
