"Adjacent lives" (Arabic: حيوات متجاورة) by Mohamed Barada, published in 2009 by Al-Funk publishing house and the Lebanese House of literature.[1] It talks about the lives of the three characters of the novel whether through speech, or dialogue.[2]Through these lives, we re-examine events that have made the paths of Morocco's history, individuals, and their values.[3]
Content[edit]
The novel talks about the story of Naima, the main character, a divorced flight attendant whose life is full of many adventures and who ends up going to prison for running a drug trafficking network. However, what is striking about this work is the narrative style of the narrator, Samih, who is one of the heroes of Naima's adventures.[4]
Criticism[edit]
Some critics agree on the artistry and creativity of the work, at the level of form and content, while other critics considered the novel a copy of previous works, Like “a forgetful woman” and like “a summer that will not be repeated”, her characters are lifeless, because of the emphasis of Barada on the technical side in his works more than the creative side, which should be attributed in the work, And it attracts the reader, and perhaps this is what makes Barada's creative, a field for experimenting with his critical tools.
