Advantage & Forbes Books Inc. is an American book publishing house affiliated with Forbes Media.[3][4] Its main focus is on business book publishing and marketing for entrepreneurs. Advantage & Forbes Books publishes both traditional printed books as well as ebooks and audiobooks. The company was founded in 2005 by Adam Witty, and is based out of Charleston, South Carolina. In 2016, Advantage & ForbesBooks became Forbes' first official book imprint.[5][6]

History[edit]

Advantage & ForbesBooks is a publishing, printing and book marketing company that produces hardback and paperback books. It also publishes ebooks in several formats. The company launched in 2005 as Advantage Media Group.[7] According to Jetset Magazine: "Advantage started in the spare bedroom of Founder & CEO Adam Witty’s home."[8] Since the start, its main focus has been on business book publishing for CEOs and entrepreneurs as hard copy books followed by digital online publishing in 2010s. Later on, the company added additional services such as "branding" and "authority marketing" for its authors. In November 2016, Advantage Media Group and Forbes teamed up to create a joint marketing and distribution force to serve the US and beyond. As a result, the company re-branded as Advantage & ForbesBooks retaining the company's previous trademark as its legal name. Following the partnership with media giant Forbes, the company became the first official book publishing imprint by Forbes.[3][9] The company also expanded through a number of acquisitions. In 2016, it acquired Shelton Interactive, a book PR firm. In 2018, Advantage & ForbesBoks acquired four more firms including EMSI with its News & Experts division in Tampa, Fla;[10] Magnetic Marketing in Chicago; GKIC;[11] Oxford Center for Entrepreneurs in Atlanta[12] and more.[13] By the end of 2018, the company had more than 1300 authors published.[14]

Organizational structure and business model[edit]

The publisher's main office in the United States is based out of Charleston, South Carolina. In April 2018, the company expanded its area after purchasing 2 floors of the office area (15,000-square-feet) in the historic part of Charleston's downtown.[15] The company's business model has been focused on entrepreneurs, CEOs and busy individuals by providing them a team of editors, ghost writers and marketing tools channels to facilitate publishing process. A number of sources report that Advantage & ForbesBooks modus operandi is close to hybrid publishing or vanity press with the business model more similar to Simon & Schuster and Random House.[16][17][3][5][14][13]
