Airwallex is a financial services platform and payments company headquartered in Melbourne. The company provides businesses with a way to make payments in 23 different currencies as well as receive payments in USD, AUD, GBP, EUR and HKD via their Global Accounts product.
Airwallex was founded in 2015 by Jack Zhang, Max Li, Lucy Liu and Xijing Dai after seeing the exorbitant fees charged by traditional banks when they wanted to import coffee cups from overseas for their Melbourne cafe.[1]
The company reached unicorn status following a successful Series C fundraising round of $100m USD in March, 2019. The company is now valued at over $1bn USD.[2]
