Alaa was the executive director of the United Kingdom-based ALQST, a non-profit organization that advocates for greater freedoms and human rights in the UAE and the wider Gulf region [4][5]
Al-Siddiq served as the executive director of rights group Al-Qst, who confirmed her death on Sunday.[6][7]
Al-Siddiq gained asylum in the UK, along with her ex-husband Abdulrahman Omar, in 2018, when they were both driven out of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during its campaign against dissidents between 2011-12. [8]
Siddiq, a UAE national, initially sought political asylum with Omar in Qatar, where she lived with relatives before following him to the UK. [9] Her father, Mohammad al-Siddiq, is also a prominent activist who has been held in detention by Emirati Regime since 2013 [10][11]
