Alan Hercher (11 August 1965–10 August 2018), was a Scottish professional footballer and shinty player, who played for Ross County, Caledonian and Inverness Caledonian Thistle. And played shinty in his youth for Beauly Shinty Club.

Shinty Career[edit]

Although a very short stint, Hercher played professional shinty for three seasons with Beauly, making his shinty debut at 15 before heading to Ross County.[1]

He returned to shinty in 2015, under a coaching role, for Beauly.

Football Career[edit]

Hercher started his career in Dingwall with Ross County in the Highland League in 1984[2]. Following that, he moved to Inverness side, Caledonian, in 1986 where he remained until the side merged with Inverness Thistle. He was then, along with many players from the club, moved to Caledonian Thistle, the resulting club of the merger, to play in the Third Division, and his only stint in the SFL. He is best known for his stint in Inverness, making multiple landmark records; Being first captain, first goalscorer and hat-trick scorer. He stayed with the side, for three seasons, lifting the Third Division title in his final season, and closing it off with a testimonial against St Johnstone. He returned to the Highland League again in the summer of 1997, to fellow Invernesians, Clachnacuddin, where he stayed for a few seasons, before leaving them to head north to Brora Rangers.

Managment Career[edit]

Following his retirement from football, he returned to the Beauly area, and managed Muir of Ord Rovers.[3]

Personal Life[edit]

Hercher died on 10 August 2018[4][5][6], and on the following day a minutes silence was held for him at Inverness's game vs Ayr United, and Clachnacuddin's game vs Lossiemouth. He died one day before his 53rd Birthday.
