The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is a rare dog breed from Alapaha, Georgia.[1][2][3][4]
Description
Appearance

This breed shows that it is a non-exaggerated and natural type of bulldog, although it is a strong, well-developed and muscular breed. Descriptions of their size vary greatly, males are about 32 to 41 kg and 56 to 63.5 cm at the withers; the females are smaller about 27 to 32 kg and 51 cm to 58 cm at the withers. The coat colors are varied, usually white or different shades of black, gray, red, bluish, white, brindle, brown, fawn or mahogany, always trimmed with white. Merle and their variations are common to the breed. The color of the eyes can vary from brown to blue, some dogs have eyes of two different colors at the same time (heterochromia).
Temperament
It is a trainable, obedient and alert dog with impressive features, being a family and property guard dog. They are protective and loving to the family and are known to have a strong protection instinct. They need to be socialized since early age.
Origin
According to anecdotal reports, the breed may have been developed as early as the 1800s in the Alapaha River region of Georgia for the purpose of recreating the extinct plantation dog breed.[3] It is believed that the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog descended from the Old English Bulldog and was developed as a family and property guard dog. It was added to the Working dog category in 1986 by a privately owned breed registry called the American Research Foundation; however, pedigrees, registrations and other necessary breeding information is unverifiable.[5] Dog owners filed complaints against the now defunct registry.[6]
Health
The breed is susceptible to Entropion[3], and Nasolacrimal duct inflammation.
