American Working Red is a dog breed recognized by the American Preservation Dog Registry (APDR).[1]

For many years these dogs were registered as American Pit Bull Terriers. The formalization of the new breed Working Pit Bulldog at American Dog Breeders Association and the Pit Bull stud book correction also led another club (APDR) to formalize another new breed, the American Working Red.[citation needed]
According to the official breed standard established by the APDR the American Working Red emerged a few decades ago, from American Pit Bull Terriers of the Old Family Red Nose (OFRN) bloodline. It were developed under a selection that created larger dogs fit for hunting wild boars. Famous bloodlines that for a long time were registered as American Pit Bull Terriers are a important part of the American Working Red breed stock such as the Camelot, Peterson, Dangerzone and McKenna bloodlines.[1]
