Alavans or Uppu Alavans are a community of salt workers from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Religion[edit]
The Alavans are generally followers of Hinduism who worship Kali.
Distribution[edit]
The Alavans are generally found in the districts of Madurai and Tirunelveli. Around three or four centuries ago, seven families of Alavans are believed to have migrated to Travancore where they settled.
