In the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, the aleax (/ˈlæks/ AY-lee-aks)[1] is a type of outsider.

Publication history[edit]

The aleax first appeared in the original first edition Fiend Folio (1981).[2]

The aleax appeared in the second edition for the Planescape setting in the Planescape Campaign Setting boxed set (1994).[3]

The aleax appeared in third edition in the Book of Exalted Deeds (2003).[4]

Description[edit]

The aleax is an avatar of certain gods sent as vengeance for angering the deity. It is only visible to the victim, can only be harmed by the victim, and has identical characteristics to the target—the same armor, skills and weapons. If the target is defeated, the victim will be raised from the dead, minus all their treasure and half of their experience. If the target wins, he or she is taken to serve the deity for a year and a day.

Other games[edit]

The aleax appears as a high level monster in the game Nethack.
