Aleea Devitt is a New Zealand Psychology academic. She is currently a Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Waikato[1].

Academic Career[edit]

Devitt earned her PhD at The University of Auckland. She also spent four years as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University[2].

Devitt’s expertise is in areas of Ageing, Human Behaviour, Human Development, Autobiographical memory, Future thinking, Imagination, and fMRI. She conducts research on the links between the future and the past, how memory is used to imagine future events, and in turn how thinking about the future alters memory. Her research also explores how healthy aging influences our ability to remember past events and imagine future scenarios. To answer these questions, Devitt uses cognitive and behavioural methods, neuropsychological testing, neuroimaging, and multilevel modelling[1].

in 2021, Devitt was recognised by the Association for Psychological Science, receiving a rising star award, and was awarded a Marsden fund grant for a three year study exploring how memory affects our ability to imagine the future as we age[3].
