Alex Oturu is a Singer-songwriter, Migration Management Specialist, Geographic Information Systems Analyst, and Musical Recording Artiste, often describing himself as an "occasional singer", who currently works with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.
Early Life[edit]
Alex Oturu was born in Lagos Nigeria in the early 1980s and is the fifth child of Bishop Mark and Reverend Kate Oturu.
He had his primary and secondary education in Lagos, Nigeria before going on to study Geography at the Obafemi Awolowo University, in Ile-Ife Osun state. He then studied for a Master's degree in Geoinformatics at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.
Throughout his school days, he was either a member of or led several choirs and during his National Youth Service Corps, he placed in the top 5 at the NYSC Camp Idols singing competition at the Abuja NYSC Camp.
Career[edit]
Alex began working as a graphics designer for SD Ventures in 2003, while still at the University studying for his bachelor's degree in Geography.
He worked with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and was selected to study for his Master's in Geoinformatics under the Nigerian Food Security Project.
At the end of the project he set up a small GIS Firm in Abuja, Flex Geoinformatiks Solutions. During which he was involved in several mapping and GIS projects across the country. He later took up a job with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, a government humanitarian agency. He has expanded his knowledge in Migration management through on-field experience, as well as attending several courses in Africa and Europe.
He has continued to pursue his passion for music and entertainment and in December, 2018, he released his debut musical single, You, featuring another singer Chiny Godwin. The acapella track, produced by Kennie West was well received and received consistent airplay on radio stations in Lagos and Abuja. In 2019 he appeared in a minor role in Kiki Omeili's psychological thriller, which opened to rave reviews at the cinemas, Run. In April 2020 he released another single, Papa which enjoyed positive reviews and notable airplay.
Alex Oturu released his debut music video in July 2020 for the song You. The video was directed by Seun Williams and starred Kiki Omeili.
