Alexis Gouten is a French entrepreneur. Descended from a watchmaking dynasty, the Gouten family, he founded several Swiss companies like the luxury leather brand Monarchy London, the Swiss start up Wobee, active in Workers benefits and the Swiss horological brand Manufacture Royale founded by Voltaire. He was born on 29 July 1975, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France

Early years[edit]

Alexis Gouten was born in the Hopital Américain in Neuilly-sur-Seine on 29 July 1975. His father Gérard Gouten was a French business executive based in Paris and his mother Marie Pierre a French national. In 1986, at the age of 11 he moved with his parents to Fribourg, Switzerland.

Education[edit]

He pursue studies in the University of Fribourg in Economics and journalism and was the youngest student to apply to the University (17 years old) at Fribourg Institute of Journalism

Business[edit]

Gouten Distribution, Macher SA, Maverick Geneva (1995-2017)[edit]

In 1995 after leaving University he join the family business Gouten Distribution[1] that was exclusive wholesaler for the Swiss brands Raymond Weil, Roger Dubuis, Greubel Forsey, De Bethune and French jewelers Chaumet and Boucheron. For 24 years he has continuously trained himself to become a recognized expert in the luxury market.[2] He also introduced to the Swiss market two brands from the Richemont Group, Lancel and Dunhill Then he join forces with Dutch entrepreneur Peter Stas and developed Frederique Constant[3] in Switzerland through Macher SA. Macher became quickly the largest market for the Frederique Constant Group. In 2016 he sold the whole company to the Citizen Group. Since then, he has always highlighted the passion and creativity of independent luxury watch brands against a certain conformism of mass luxury.[4]

He contributed to the rise of independent watchmakers by establishing a retail shop in Hotel Kempinski in Geneva named Maverick Geneva.[5][6][7]

Manufacture Royale (2013-2020)[edit]

In 2013, Alexis Gouten joined forces with his father and cousin, Gérard Gouten, David Gouten and Marc Guten to take over Manufacture Royale.[8] This historical watch brand was founded by the French philosopher Voltaire in 1770. This multi-task French character who was also an entrepreneur sold watches to various royal families in Europe. Today, Manufacture Royale pocket watches can be seen in the British Museum, in the Musée du Louvre and in several private collections around the world. Nowadays Manufacture Royale emphasizes the personal relation between the watchmakers and the end consumer by creating bespoke wristwatches.[9][10][11][12][13][14]

Monarchy London (2018–Present)[edit]

In 2018, Alexis Gouten created with his best friend Monarchy London. This disruptive leather and travelbag brands is inspired by the clash of universes between the British royalty and the birth of the anarchy movement in United Kingdom. [15] [16] [17][18] [19][20] The international football player Djibril Cissé joined the team as brand ambassador and adviser. Personalities such as international football player Samuel Eto’o and world champion Dakota Schuetz are trusted clients.

Wobee (2018–Present)[edit]

The start up Wobee[21] was founded in 2018 based on a creative concept in relation with workers benefits : How to help luxury brands destocking cleanly and discreetly in a closed high-end network Alexis Gouten came up with the idea of creating an online platform, selling seasonal luxury products that can only be accessed with a private code. These sales are exclusively reserved for large Swiss companies such as Philipp Morris, Banque Edmond de Rotschild or Ecole Hotelière de Lausanne

Saigon Venture Partners (2020-Present)[edit]

Alexis co-founded the company with two businessmen following a successful experience in a collector's dinner in Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam is currently the fastest growing country in the world, and Saigon Venture Partners is helping to build bridges between the West and this growing market. Contemporary art artist Richard Orlinski is one of the first to place his trust in this new structure. He is pursuing his career as entrepreneur and luxury expert.[22][23]
