All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rewari (AIIMS Rewari and also AIIMS Manethi; IAST: Akhil Bhāratiya Āyurvignan Samsthān, Rewari) is an upcoming autonomous medical college and medical research public university under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It is coming up at Manethi village of Rewari district in southern region of Haryana state of India.[2][3] It was formally notified by the government on 28 February 2019,[1] which is its legal establishment date. It will be functional by February 2023.[4]
It is located off NH26 about 20 km Southeast of Mahendragarh, 25 km west of Rewari, 30 km east of Narnaul, 63 km west of Manesar, 79 km north of Alwar, 90 km west of Gurugram, 96 northeast of Sariska Tiger Reserve, 110 km west of national capital Delhi and 335 km southwest of the state capital Chandigarh.[5][6][5] Kund Railway Station and Kathuwas Railway Station are the nearest stations,[6] and Delhi–Alwar Regional Rapid Transit System will pass nearby.
On 28 February 2019 the setting up of AIIMS Manethi was formally notified by the Government of India,[1] which is considered the legal establishment date. On 1st February 2019 during the annual union budget, it was announced by then acting Union Finance Minister Piyush Goyal as the 22nd AIIMS of the country.[7] In February 2019, the Union Cabinet of Government of India headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the establishment of AIIMS Manethi at a cost of INR1299 crore (US$190 million).[8]
Set up and ongoing maintenance and operational cost will be fully met by the union government.[8]
AIIMS will initially have the annual intake of 100 MBBS and 60 B.Sc (Nursing) students.[8] According to an official spokesperson of the Government of Haryana, eventually undergraduate and post graduate medical education in various branches will be offered.[9]
225 acre land has been pledged by the Manethi village gram panchayat for the campus,[10][5][3][9] which will be constructed "broadly on the pattern of AIIMS Delhi".[8]
A 750 beds hospital with emergency services, ICU unit and AYUSH (ayurveda based) facilities will serve 1000 IPD patients monthly and 1500 OPD patients daily.[8]
The residential complex entails the night shelter for the patient's relatives, guest house for the visiting faculty and academic guests, student hostels and staff residential facilities.[8]
The project has faced land acquisition delays. Haryana Forests Department citing union government's Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) report, raised objection that some of the 225 acres land which Manethi village's gram panchayat has provided for the project can not be used for construction because this forested land falls in the Natural Conservation Zone (NCZ) of Aravalli eco-sensitive wildlife corridor.[10][11] As of November 2019, the additional contiguous land in 3 adjacent villages (namely Majra, Padla and Basduda), which was identified by the land survey department of Government of Haryana to mitigate this land acquisition risk by replacing this forested land with the alternative land, was awaiting final approval from the state's higher authorities.[11]
