Alphacet, Inc. is a software company in the algorithmic trading space that provides software solutions designed to help quantitative analysts, traders and portfolio managers create consistent alpha, or absolute returns.
Alphacet's software solution Alphacet Discovery is an example of an alpha generation platform. These platforms enable users to develop quantitative financial modeling strategies and are often used by hedge funds[1] as well as commercial banks.
Alpha generation platforms have been receiving increased attention as automated trading continues to grow within many key markets. According to the Aite Group, 30% of all European and U.S. stock trades were driven by automatic programs in 2006, and they predict that by 2010, 50% of all U.S. stock trades will be run by automatic programs.[2] According to research firm Celent, electronic trading continues to fuel growth within the foreign exchange industry as well as it estimates that by 2009-2010, the market could grow from around $3 trillion to $4 trillion of daily turnover, with 50% of the dealer to client volume traded electronically.[3]
History[edit]
Alphacet, Inc. was founded in 2007, building on efforts that began in 2003, based on pioneering work by researchers at the University of California. Through this research, Alphacet developed the only straight through processing (STP) platform in the quantitative electronic trading and algorithmic trading fields. In 2008 it released its first commercial version of its STPplatform, named Discovery.[4] Alphacet is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, with development facilities in Petaluma, California.[5]

The solution connects to market data vendors and market database partners,[6] and provides financial modeling tools that allow traders to model, backtest, walk forward and launch quantitative strategies.[7] It also employs machine learning techniques.[8]
