CyberAlert, LLC (previously CyberAlert, Inc.) is a private corporation founded in 1999 with venture funding from the principles of Andlinger & Company, Inc. Headquartered in Stratford, Connecticut, CyberAlert provides media monitoring and media measurement services to public and private companies and non-profit organizations.

History[edit]

CyberAlert was founded by William J. Comcowich, its current president and CEO, as a spin-off of Ultitech, Inc. Software development for CyberAlert's services originated at UltiTech in 1997 as a custom software development for a major pharmaceutical company.

Services[edit]

CyberAlert's services are commonly used by brands, public relations and marketing departments and agencies to manage their online reputation by keeping tabs on their company's brand mentions in the news and social media. "Services like CyberAlert's give customers the ability to get regular reports on postings to such Web sites without having to tap one of their own people to monitor the site. At the same time, the customer gets reports on postings -- both negative and positive -- that occur on thousands of other Web sites and news groups." [1]

CyberAlert develops and markets CyberAlert 5.0, proprietary technology that enables businesses and communications professionals to monitor what is said on the Internet about their company or products. CyberAlert's other products include:

  • CyberAlert Buzz, a social media measurement tool for tracking and analyzing user-generated content on social media networks.
  • CyberAlert TV, a media monitoring tool that tracks the closed caption text of television stations in the United States.
  • Omnibus NewsFeed, a news aggregator that aggregates worldwide news content.
  • a.m. News Brief, a daily press briefing service that summarizes news articles for CyberAlert's clients.

Along with media monitoring tools, CyberAlert also developed media measurement software designed to allow their clients to assess the analytics of their media monitoring results.

Competition[edit]

CyberAlert is competing in a marketplace with media monitoring and social media monitoring tools and platforms. Free tools like Google Alerts and Hootsuite offer similar services, but CyberAlert's subscription-based competitors include:[2]

  • Vocus, which owns online marketing and publicity services including PRWeb, Help a Reporter Out (HARO), North Social and iContact.
  • Meltwater Group, a software as a service company offering products in a variety of market verticals.
  • BurrellesLuce, which provides media relations planning, monitoring, and measurement services.
  • Cision, a web-based software as a service solution to build media lists, distribute press releases, manage PR campaigns, monitor news coverage and analyze results.
