Amada Senior Care is a California-based senior care franchise that provides non-medical in-home care and assistance with senior housing placement options, such as assisted living and care homes. The company also provides assistance in handling long-term care insurance claims and Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefits. Amada is headquartered in Laguna Woods, California.[1]

History[edit]

Amada Senior Care, formerly Amada Home Care, was co-founded in 2007 by Tafa Jefferson and Chad Fotheringham. The company made its first senior care franchise offering in 2012, and had over 40 franchise locations throughout the US as of April 2015.[2] In May of 2014, Amada was ranked #4 in a Forbes article titled "Best Franchises To Own: Why Home Healthcare Is Hot." [3]

Tafa Jefferson[edit]

Tafa Jefferson, born in Los Angeles, California, is the CEO of Amada Senior Care. Formerly an offensive tackle for the Chicago Bears, Jefferson left the NFL following an injury in 1997. After his injury, he started his own homecare company and in 2007, co-founded Amada Senior Care in Laguna Woods, California, with his long-time friend Chad Fotheringham.[1]

Jefferson grew up in Garden Grove, California. His African American father was an entrepreneur and his American Samoan mother was a caregiver.[4] Jefferson claims he was inspired by his mother to start his own caregiving company, because he saw first-hand the satisfaction she gained from helping others.[1]

Chad Fotheringham[edit]

Chad Fotheringham is President of Amada Senior Care. He partnered with Tafa Jefferson to form the business under the name Amada in 2007.[1]
