Amit Dixit is an Indian politician and Student leader in Students' union of Kanpur University and in Uttar Pradesh, who was appointed as National Executive Member of BJP Kisan Morcha Yuva Samiti [1] in September 2018, which is the peasant wing of Bharatiya Janata Party, headed by Virendra Singh Mast. Amit also served as the General secretary Students' union Kanpur University for a term of 3 years, then he contested for the member of Jila panchayat from Unnao as an official candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party.
Early life and education
Amit Dixit was the third of four children born to Kanti Dixit and Ravi Shanker Dixit on 04 December 1984 in Kanpur. He is Brahman by caste. His father, Pandit Ravi Shanker Dixit, had migrated to Kanpur from his ancestral village of Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. Amit did his schooling at the Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Kanpur. For further education he joined Saraswati Vidya Mandir. He completed his graduation with B.A. in Political Science from DAV College, Kanpur.
Political and Social life
His activism started with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He first addressed a student rally on the 2005 Students' union Election of Kanpur University. In 2008 he was elected as the general secretary of Students' union. He also joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a swayamsevak, or volunteer. Influenced by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he attended the Officers Training Camp of the RSS during 2006-2008. He headed different movements and protests relating to the rights of the student and youth of the society on a very large scale. He became particularly notable in Uttar Pradesh from 2010 for his contribution to the people related to agriculture and was a well known farmer leader in the middle area of Uttar Pradesh state. Amit organized a massive farmer gathering at Unnao under the Chairmanship of Virendra Singh Mast. He joined the Institution of farmers "Kisan Morcha" as National Executive Member BJP Kisan Morcha in 2018.
Protests
- Amit led a massive protest against Government of Uttar Pradesh for reopening of the Students' union elections from 2012-2014.[2]
- Amit, along with hundreds of students under the banner of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad at Kanpur District of Uttar Pradesh, held a strong protest against a hike of fees in Kanpur University[3] for which he also led a delegation who gave representation to the governor of Uttar Pradesh. [4]
- Amit was part of the different movement for reopening the student union election all over the state of Uttar Pradesh[5]
- Amit, along with scores of youths, held a protest dharna at Kanpur, demanding an increase of seats in the different universities of Uttar Pradesh for the domicile student of the state.[6]
- Amit led a massive cycle rally from Kanpur to the Chief minister's office in Lucknow for reopening the Students' union elections.[7]
- Amit was also responsible for the large scale violence over the roads by the large number of students for an admission scam in Kanpur University. [8] He also met the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh to start a probe against the people involved in this inter state scam. He also applied for different RTI letters for opening the fraud in this scam, which resulted in a rollback of increased examination and re-evaluation fee in the University.
Rise as farmer leader
Amit contested for the member of Jila panchayat from Unnao as an official candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party, in the elections he was arrested for violating the Election code of conduct. This was in a rural area where he noticed the problems related to the farmer on a ground level. After that he joined BJP Kisan Morcha in 2018 and was nominated as a National Executive Member BJP Kisan Morcha. Amit worked and raised a range of issues namely Land Acquisition, use of new scientific technology in farming, Pesticide Management, Farmer's Suicide, Farming Reforms, and Proper Electricity Supply to the farmers.
