Andrea Volpato (born April 4th 1991) is an Italian musician, audio engineer and record producer. He is the lead guitarist and backing vocalist of the Italian band New Candys and the drummer of Love in Elevator. He has released one solo EP in 2016.[1]
Biography
Andrea Volpato was born on the 4th of April 1991 in Venice, Italy and grew up near the Venetian Lagoon. He started to play piano at 6 years old and drums and guitar at the age of ten. His education consists of a BA in Sound Engineering from the Conservatory of Music in Padua, a Masters in Audio Mastering from APM in Saluzzo, a Contemporary Drums Diploma from the CPM in Milan, and an internship at the Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice. Volpato has recorded, mixed and produced numerous albums for artists from all around the world since 2013 at Fox Studio Venice. All of his works have been reviewed and collected with maximum ratings on Discogs [2]. In 2017 he was interview on Italiani.it [3] regarding his musical and recording studio projects.
Music Career
Autumn's Rain (2004–2014)
He was the former member, drummer and vocalist of the Venetian band Autumn’s Rain. He released one EP and two albums on Go Down Records and Valery Records. With Autumn's Rain he played around Italy for nearly ten years.
Love in Elevator (2015–present)
He is the drummer of the noise rock band Love In Elevator since 2015. He has co-written, recorded and mixed the 7" "Unlocked / Beyond Your Inner Sea", released on Coward Records, as well as the latest album "Lies To Stars", released on Fuzzy Cluster Records and Riff Records. The album premiered on the 16th of April 2019 on Rebel Noise[4]
Lorelle Meets The Obsolete (2016)
He toured Europe as the drummer of the shoegaze Mexican band Lorelle Meets The Obsolete in 2016 during the promotion of their fourth album "Balance". The tour consisted of 42 gigs all around Europe, the United Kingdom, Israel and the Balkans; including Liverpool International Festival Of Psychedelia 2016 featured on Drowned in Sound.[5]
New Candys (2016–present)
Since 2016 Andrea Volpato has been the lead guitarist and backing vocalist of New Candys [6], with whom he toured Europe, the UK, Australia, the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Balkans and has recorded two studio albums which were released on Fuzz Club, Little Cloud Records and Dischi Sotterranei.
Andrea recorded and mixed the third album "Bleeding Magenta" at Fox Studio Venice. The album received critical acclaim from webzines including Clash.[7] and Drowned in Sound.[8] Two songs from the album, "Bleeding Magenta" [9] and "Excess" [10], were featured on two episodes of Showtime Networks original TV series Shameless.
New Candys’ fourth and latest album Vyvyd was released on 4 June 2021 via Little Cloud Records and Dischi Sotterranei, plus an exclusive vinyl edition on Fuzz Club. It’s the first record arranged, performed and produced by the new line-up.It was recorded and mixed at Fox Studio Venice by Andrea Volpato with additional mixing by Grammy Award producer Tommaso Colliva, who worked with Muse, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Damon Albarn among others.
On 16 March 2021 New Candys released the first lead single "Twin Mime" with a music video which premiered on Post-Punk.com[11] and the song ultimately featured on five Spotify editorial playlists, including "All New Rock". This was followed by the second single "Begin Again" on 13 April 2021; the music video, directed by Ivana Smudja, premiered on CVLT Nation[12] and the song was featured on the "Sacred Bones Now Playing" playlist curated by the renowned record label. The third and final single "Zyko" was released on 11 May 2021 and was added to six Spotify editorial playlists including "New Alt-Rock Mixtape", Apple Music’s "New in Rock" and Deezer’s "Hot New Rock", making it their most successful track to date. The song was broadcasted on BBC Radio 6 Music during Iggy Pop’s The Confidential Show hosted by Tom Robinson[13] and on 14 May 2021 the band performed for the online edition of The Great Escape Festival.
MØAA (2021)
Andrea recorded, mixed and produced the debut album "Euphoric Recall" of the Seattle artist MØAA (Jancy Rae) and co-wrote two of the songs with her including hit single "X Marks" [14]; which was accompanied by a music video filmed and directed by BLAU! production and premiered on Under the Radar[15] and CVLT Nation[16] on March 11th 2021 and was later featured on Post-Punk.com[17]. The second co-written song of the album was "Flashlight".
Recording Career
Since 2011, Andrea has also been known as both a live and studio sound engineer, but more predominately as the latter.
Fox Studio (2011-Present)
He created Fox Studio Venice in 2011 and since then has produced, recorded, mixed and mastered music of artists in various genres from Europe, USA, Australia, as well as filmed and edited video sessions. His work is mainly focused in Shoegaze, Psychedelic rock, Darkwave, Dream pop, and modern alternative rock.
