Andrew Orpik (born March 12, 1986) is an American former professional ice hockey player who played in the American Hockey League (AHL) .

Playing career[edit]

After spending the 2004–05 season at Thayer Academy, he was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 7th round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft with the 227th selection. He played four seasons at Boston College and graduated with a degree in Marketing.

Orpik was not signed to an entry level contract by the Sabres, causing the release of his rights. On August 25, 2009 Orpik signed with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL. Orpik previously played for the Las Vegas Wranglers, which is a Phoenix Coyotes affiliated ECHL team, and played several games for the San Antonio Rampage in 2009.[1] On August 13, 2010, Orpik signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins minor league affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.[2]

Personal[edit]

He is the younger brother of former long-time Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik. Brooks also went to Boston College and also played for the Penguins' minor league affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Before playing in the minors, he played at Williamsville North High School in East Amherst mainly on the 3rd and 4th line as a winger.

Orpik helps out with youth hockey training in Massachusetts in the summer during his off-season.
