Ange Dolittle is an English singer, songwriter and musician. He is best known as the singer of 80's/90's band EAT.

Career[edit]

EAT[edit]

EAT were formed in Bath in 1986 [1] consisting of Dolittle (vocals & harmonica), Pete Howard (drums), Tim Sewell (Bass), Paul Nobel (Guitar) and Max Nobel (Guitar). The band moved to London and in December 1988 they signed with Fiction Records[2]. While recording their first album, Sell Me a God, at Greenhouse Studios Dolittle and EAT met The Wonder Stuff who were recording in the studio upstairs and friendships were formed that would be evident in their work for many years to come[3]. The album Sell Me a God was released in October 1989. After the departure of the Noble brothers, guitarists Jem Moorshead and Max Lavilla joined Dolittle, Howard and Sewell to record their second album Epicure which was released in the UK in 1993[4]. The band split in 1994.

We Know Where You Live[edit]

After the demise of EAT in 1994, Dolittle joined Malc Treece (guitar) and Paul Clifford (bass) both from recently defunct The Wonder Stuff, and ex-Then Jericho drummer Steve Wren to form We Know Where You Live. Wren left after a short period with the band and was temporarily replaced by another former member of The Wonder Stuff, Martin Gilks. Gilks left in 1996 and was in turn replaced by Jim Ledbetter.[5] They released two singles, 1995's Don't be too honest and 1996's Draped.[6] Clifford left the band in August 1996 and We Know Where You Live folded shortly after. After the death of Martin Gilks in 2006, a The Wonder Stuff fan site called Room 512 released a compilation of studio demos and live bootlegs called It's Nice to be Nice.

Big Yoga Muffin[edit]

By 1998 Dolittle had formed Big Yoga Muffin with Pim Jones of Hipsway[7]. They released a series of EP's and one album, 2000's Wherever you go, there you are on The Echo Label. In June 2000 they appeared on the Channel 4 television show TFI Friday[8]. Writing started on a second album [9] and in 2001 they released a new EP but the album never materialised.

Dolittle[edit]

In 2006[10] Dolittle formed his eponymous band with Oxford-based musicians Mr. G (guitar) and Rich (bass)[11]. The bulk of their music was re-worked versions of songs from Dolittle's previous bands. Their first album, Hello to the Fortunate Few was released in 2006 [12] and was recorded at The Wonder Stuff frontman Miles Hunt's studio[13] . Dolittle's second album The Irresistible Charm of Baby Owls was released in October 2013. Dolittle split in 2014 when it was announced that EAT were to reform.

EAT Reunion[edit]

On the 31st of March 2014 EAT created a Facebook page[14] and on the 3rd of April announced that four of the five Epicure era members had reunited[15] and that Max Lavilla's replacement would see Dolittle reunite with We Know Where You Live and The Wonder Stuff guitarist, Malc Treece. Over the next few years they played some live shows and recorded and released an E.P. of new material. Since the end of 2017 the bands activities seem to have slowed down and other projects have taken priority. Dolittle and Malc Treece have formed a new band called Holy Apes and Treece has also rejoined The Wonder Stuff along with EAT's drummer Pete Howard[16]. In addition to this, Tim Sewell has been recording bass for The Wonder Stuff's new album[17]

Holy Apes[edit]

In June 2018 social media accounts were created for a new band called Holy Apes. Dolittle had once again teamed up with guitarist Malc Treece to write some new material. Another former band-mate, Rich Leicester (of Dolittle) was enlisted to play bass with his former Winchell Riots band-mate, James Pamphlion, on drums. Completing the line-up was guitarist Phil Carwardine.
