AngelouEconomics (AE) is an American economic development consultancy based in Austin, Texas. Founded in 1995 by Angelos Angelou, the firm specializes in corporate site location and incentives negotiations, economic development strategy, policy advisory, and international business development. AngelouEconomics has completed more than 1,000 projects worldwide and has worked with over 650 cities across 43 U.S. states and multiple countries. The firm and its founder have received recognition in the industry; Angelou was awarded the U.S. Economic Developer of the Year award by Site Selection Magazine and is regarded as one of the architects of Austin’s growth as a nationally recognized high-tech center.[1]
History
AngelouEconomics was established in 1995 in Austin, Texas, by Angelos Angelou as a consulting firm focused on economic development and site selection. The company was created to provide strategic planning, corporate site location and incentives negotiations, investment attraction, and policy advisory services to cities, regions, states, and private companies. Before founding the company, Angelou served for nearly 12 years as Vice President of Economic Development and Chief Economist at the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. In this role, he was responsible for the recruitment of hundreds of technology companies, which led to his being widely regarded as the chief architect of Austin's growth as a high-tech center.[2]
Since its founding, the firm has expanded globally, executing projects in more than 20 countries. In 2016, AngelouEconomics launched the International Accelerator, a program designed to support international entrepreneurs establishing operations in the United States. In 2023, the initiative was expanded through IA Global Ventures, a $50 million fund investing in high-potential startups worldwide.[3]

Selected Case Studies
- Texas CCUS Economic Impact Study (2024) – The firm conducted a comprehensive economic impact study for the Texas Association of Business (TAB), detailing the potential financial benefits and job creation from carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects across 12 counties in Texas.[5]
- Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, Austin – AngelouEconomics conducted economic impact analyses for the Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. The 2021 race was estimated to have generated nearly $1 billion in total economic impact, including over $600 million in direct visitor spending, positioning the event as one of the largest annual economic drivers for Austin and Texas.[6]
- Austin City Limits Music Festival, Austin – AE has produced annual economic impact studies for the Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival. In 2023, the event contributed $499.9 million to the Austin economy, supporting the equivalent of 3,766 full-time jobs. Since 2006, ACL has generated more than $3.5 billion in cumulative economic impact and contributed over $63 million to Austin’s public park system through its partnership with the Austin Parks Foundation.[7]
- Lollapalooza Music Festival, Chicago – AE has also conducted economic impact analyses for Lollapalooza. The 2022 festival generated $335.4 million for the Chicago economy, supporting approximately 2,547 full-time jobs, and contributed $4.2 million in amusement tax revenue to the city. Since 2010, Lollapalooza has produced more than $2 billion in total economic impact.[8]
- National Entrepreneur Center, Orlando (2024) – AE conducted an economic impact analysis of the National Entrepreneur Center (NEC) in Orlando, Florida. The study reported that the NEC generated more than $188 million in economic output since its inception, and for every dollar invested into the NEC, $14.00 is created in economic output in the Central Florida region.[9]
- Corporate Site Selection (2024) – AE has recently supported major site-location projects for companies such as ConocoPhillips, Dell, HP, Oracle, GE, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Citgo Petroleum, and Lancium Technologies, advising on location strategy, incentive negotiation, and investment alignment.[10]
- Galați County Investment Mission, Romania (2025) – AE partnered with Galați County officials to promote the region to American investors. The project highlighted the county’s port, logistics infrastructure, and skilled workforce, positioning it as a gateway for trade and investment in Central and Eastern Europe.[11]
- Tampere Region Investment Collaboration (2024) – AngelouEconomics has completed a strategic collaboration with Finland to enhance investment in the Tampere region. The project’s goals included increasing the visibility of Tampere in the U.S., promoting the region as a destination for foreign direct investment (particularly in technology and semiconductors), and facilitating connections between Tampere-based companies and American public, business, and academic networks.[12]
- Santa Fe Economic Development Strategy (2004) – The firm developed a comprehensive strategic roadmap for Santa Fe's economic development efforts, reflecting a seven-month planning process that collected input from approximately 1,500 people in the community.[13]
- Regional Economic Development Strategies – AngelouEconomics has prepared economic development strategies for a range of U.S. cities and regions, including Cleveland, Cincinnati, Orlando, Dallas, Savannah, New Orleans, Harris County (Houston), West Des Moines, West Sacramento, Kansas City, and Beaumont.
