Anthony Barnwell (born 1981) is a British murderer and schizophrenic responsible for the murder of six-year-old James Brennan. In 2006, he was sent to a secure mental hospital indefinitely.[1][2]
Murder
On 1 September 2005, Anthony was babysitting for Brennan and, grabbing a bread knife, he stabbed Brennan 73 times[1][2] as he lay sleeping.[1]
Stargate SG-1
Anthony was receiving telepathic messages from the television show Stargate SG-1 which led him to the attack.[2] These messages told him implicitly that young Brennan needed to be killed.[1]
Pathology
Barnwell had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia[1] in 2004. Following his trial, Barnwell pleaded guilty on the grounds of manslaughter through diminished responsibility due to schizophrenia.[1][2]
