Murder of Farah Noor Adams

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Farah Noor Adams (1970/1971 – 7 October 2005) was a Scottish woman who was murdered in Glasgow in 2005. She was a part-time youth worker, aged 34, a Muslim, separated from her husband, bringing up a daughter aged eight. She was raped twice, beaten with a brick then murdered while exercising on a footpath beside the River Kelvin in Maryhill. Volunteers working on the Forth and Clyde Canal discovered her body at 10.45am on 7 October 2005.[1] The case shocked many Glaswegians because it took place in broad daylight in a fairly busy area of the city. Adams' estranged husband had previously been jailed for six years for attempting to murder her, but the police quickly eliminated him from the enquiry. Glasgow Muslim community leaders Bashir Maan and Mohammad Sarwar M.P. had previously visited her family.[2]

On October 11, Thomas Waddell, aged 18, from Maryhill, was arrested in connection with the case. On 6 February 2006, Waddell pleaded guilty to the rape and murder of Adams. Waddell was convicted of the murder, receiving a minimum of 16 years in prison.[3]
