Anthony Cruz
Anthony Cruz, Ed.D., (born April 7, 1969), is a U.S. higher education administrator and is currently the 11th president of Milwaukee Area Technical College[1]. It is the largest of the 16 institutions in the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS).
He was named president of MATC in 2024[2] after working at Miami Dade College, most recently as president of the Kendall Campus[3] and previously as president of both the Hialeah and Kendall campuses[4].
In 2024, Cruz was listed by BizTimes Media as among the "most influential business leaders in Wisconsin[5]" and as one of the region's "Notable BIPOC Executives.[6]" In 2025, he joined leaders from the City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Bucks and J Jeffers & Co. to provide the college to announce a new athletic facility[7] for the college.
In his role, Cruz serves as an executive sponsor of the M-Cubed initiative[8], connecting MATC to Milwaukee Public Schools and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In addition, Cruz serves on the boards of Employ Milwaukee[9] and the Wisconsin Policy Forum[10]. He is a member of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce Leadership Council, the City of Milwaukee Emerging Youth Achievement Advisory Council and the Milwaukee Succeeds Leadership Table[11].
He previously served in leadership at St. Louis Community College[12], Sinclair Community College[13], Cincinnati State Technical and Community College[14], Broward College and Florida International University.
Education
Cruz earned his doctorate in higher education (Ed.D.) from Florida International University, master's degree in Public Administration from Florida State University and a bachelor's degree in political science from Florida International University.
