History[edit]
The company began as Werner Die & Stamping in Cary, Illinois, in 1946 and later incorporated as AptarGroup in 1992.[2][5] Aptar originally developed spray valves and pumps for consumer and household products. The company also later began producing nasal administration and pulmonary drug delivery devices such as nasal spray systems and metered-dose inhaler valves.[5][6][7][8]
In 2012, Aptar acquired Stelmi, a manufacturer of elastomer primary packaging components.[9]
In 2016, Aptar acquired Mega Airless, a manufacturer of airless packaging solutions.[10] The company also entered into an agreement with Becton Dickinson & Company to develop new self-injection devices.[11][12]
Aptar entered into an agreement in 2016 with Propeller Health Partners to develop a digitally connected medication inhaler.[13]
In 2018, Aptar made an investment in Propeller Health Partners (now part of Resmed).[14] The same year, Aptar acquired CSP Technologies, a material science company that manufactures active packaging solutions.[15]

Aptar is a signatory of the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment.[16]
In 2019, Aptar joined the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.[3] It was named to Barron’s list of 2019’s Top 100 Most Sustainable U.S. Companies.[17]
In 2018, Aptar and its customer Adapt Pharma (now part of Emergent BioSolutions) donated 5,000 doses of Narcan (naloxone), an antidote for suspected opioid overdoses, to various agencies in Illinois, including the McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition and the Chicago Recovery Alliance.[18][19]
