Arfa Khanum Sherwani is an Indian journalist and writer.[1][2] She worked as anchor with NDTV and Rajya Sabha TV before joining the non-profit The Wire (Indian web publication).[3][4]

Early life and background[edit]

Arfa was born in 1980 in Khurja,Bulandshahr district,Uttar Pradesh.[5] She completed her Ph.D from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and was selected senior Vice President of the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association, Delhi Chapter in 2010.[6][7]

Career[edit]

Arfa started her career in Journalism in 2000. She started her career with The Pioneer (India) at the age of 19 years and gradually she moved to electronic journalism.[1] Later she worked in Sahara Samay Channel,[8][9] The Asian Age as a trainee sub-editor[5] and was also a news consultant and anchor with Live India News channel.[1] She also made a documentary named "Taleemi Carvan" , which was based upon rural education issues and poor literacy rate in the Bahraich district in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Arfa is vocal critic of aggressive Hindu nationalism.[10] She is active on twitter where her posts have sometimes generated controversy.[11][12]
