Artemis Ortygie
Artemis Ortygie (born October 19, 1989) is a French professional wrestling referee. She is currently under contract with the WWE and working on the NXTUK brand. She is the first French referee to sign a contract with a major wrestling league and the first French woman to sign with WWE.[1][2]
Career[edit]
Independent wrestling (2008-2019)[edit]
Artemis started as a wrestler from 2008 to 2011 before becoming a referee following a shoulder injury. She worked in France for various promotions such as the French Professional Wrestling Federation (as well as being its president in 2014)[3][4] and the International Catch Wrestling Alliance. She moved to England in 2014 and worked for IPWUK, ProwrestlingEVE, Bellatrix, BEW. In 2019, she signed as Ring of Pakistan's[5] referee, becoming the first woman to referee professional wrestling in Pakistan.
AEW (2019)[edit]
In October 2019, Artemis commentated the French version of All Elite Wrestling alongside Norbert Feuillan et Alain Mistrangélo for the TV channel Toonami.[6]
WWE (2019-present)[edit]
Artemis was offered a WWE tryout at the UK Performance Center in April 2019, including the Glasgow NXTUK tapings. She was invited back in November 2019[7] before being offered a contract in January 2020.[8][9][10] She now appears weekly on the NXTUK program.
