Vasantha Kumar (born 1996), professionally known by his stage name Asal Kolaar, is an Indian singer and rapper who has worked with OfRo, Madan Gowri and Durai. He is known for singing songs like Jorthaale which surpassed more than 10 million views globally within the first 2 weeks of its release.[1][2]

Early years

Kolaar was born in Chennai in 1996 to his parents Mukesh and Kanageswari. He later completed his high school at St. Matthias Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School where he graduated from 12th grade. After his graduation he started songwriting and did not attend college.[3]

Career

Asal started his career as a singer and performed in many stage shows. He later collaborated with the famous singing crew Atti Culture and rendered a song named Vaanambaa the song was released in 2020 marking Asal's debut. He later sang the song Jorthaale which was a worldwide success and received positive feedback and reviews from critics and listeners. The song also surpassed 10 million views within its 2 week release. After the success of Jorthaale, Asal received an offer from music composer G. V. Prakash Kumar to sing the song "Life of Bachelor" which was from the film Bachelor in 2021. He also sang the song "Inner Peace" from the film Gulu Gulu in 2022. He also sang the song "Baby Gurl" which was composed by music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja for the film Coffee with Kadhal. In 2022, he made his first television debut after appearing in the reality show Bigg Boss 6 which aired on Star Vijay as a contestant.[4]
