Ashish Bhandari is an Indian business executive and the Managing Director and Chief executive officer of Thermax Group, an engineering conglomerate. He assumed this role on 1 September 2020.[1] Bhandari previously served as the Vice President of Baker Hughes[2] and the CEO of GE Oil and Gas for India and South Asia.[3]
He is credited with building GE Oil and Gas into one of GE's largest businesses in India and successfully leading the integration of Baker Hughes and GE Oil and Gas during a period of transition.[2][4][5]
Early life and education
Ashish Bhandari completed a B. Tech in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. He later pursued an MBA from Duke University in the United States.[1][6]
Career
Bhandari began his career with Schlumberger, followed by a stint in management consulting with McKinsey & Company, where he gained experience across diverse industries. He also worked with two start-ups overseas before joining General Electric in 2005 in Houston, USA. During his time at GE, Bhandari held various roles across industrial businesses, including GE Enterprise Solutions, GE Energy, and GE Oil and Gas.[2]
In 2011, Bhandari relocated to Gurgaon, India, where he led the expansion of GE Oil and Gas into one of GE's largest businesses in the country. As Vice President for Baker Hughes in India and South Asia, Bhandari managed operations and oversaw the successful integration of Baker Hughes and GE Oil and Gas.[2][4] He also served as the CEO of GE Oil and Gas for India and South Asia.[3] He worked at GE for 15 years.[2]
In April 2020, he took on the role of Joint Managing Director at Thermax Group.[7] In September 2020, Bhandari was appointed managing director and CEO of Thermax Group.[8][9] Under his leadership, Thermax has focused on clean air, clean energy, and clean water initiatives. As of December 2024, the company had a market capitalization of ₹34,703 crore.[2] Ashish Bhandari is also on the board of First Energy.[10]
He is a trustee of the Akshaya Patra Foundation, which provides mid-day meals to underprivileged schoolchildren in India.[11] In 2023, he was ranked #102 in the list of Top 200 CEOs in India by StartupLanes.[12]
