Ashton McGhie Khan (born May 6, 1991), is a British-Canadian former professional basketball player who played in the British Basketball League.[1] He last played for Bozhou Basketball Club in China.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

Khan was born to Rarziah Khan and Gary McGhie in Toronto, Canada.[3] He has two brothers, Jerome Khan and Jaden Khan. Khan began playing basketball at an early age, which was encouraged by his older brother. Playing the game with his older brother and friends on a court in his neighborhood of Scarborough in Toronto, Canada was just a hobby the boys enjoyed. But with each layup, each bounce pass, and each meticulously executed assist, Khan's passion for the game grew stronger.[3] Along with his older brother, Jerome Khan, Ashton is one of the many basketball players from the Scarborough community who have gone on to compete in University.

In 2009, Khan did a Prep School year at Brewster Academy, where he played with NBA star Will Barton and went on to win the NEPSAC and National Championship at Brewster Academy.[4]

He played basketball growing up with a childhood friend and NBA player, Cory Joseph, along with teammate Will Barton of the Denver Nuggets in high school.[5]

Khan holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology with a concentration in Human Behaviors from Tiffin University, USA, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Sports Coaching from Worcester University, UK.[6]

College career[edit]

Khan started his career at Division 1 NCAA Canisius College (2010–11).[7] He transferred to Kilgore College NJCAA (2011–2012), where he led the team as their start point guard. After graduating with an associate degree from Kilgore College (Texas), Khan headed to Tiffin University to finish is college career and education.

As a senior at Tiffin University in 2014–15, Khan averaged 14.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 34.1 minutes in 29 appearances.[8]

Professional career[edit]

Khan began his professional career with the Worcester Wolves in the United Kingdom in the 2015–16 season and captained the 2017–2018 season in British Basketball League.[3] He was named the most exciting player to watch by the Worcester wolves fans. Khan has played for teams in both Asia and Europe and has also been involved in coaching and teaching.[9]

In December 2017, Khan departed from Worcester Wolves,[10] soon after reaching the BBL Cup final. He was the longest-serving player in James’ squad that season, having first joined the club in 2015, and had 87 appearances while studying for a master's degree in sports coaching at the University of Worcester.[11][12][13]

The same year, he was also one of 24 players invited to the four-day Team England basketball camp, as part of the squad's preparation for the Commonwealth Games.[14]

Khan has worked with the Halifax Hurricanes of Canada's NBL as well as with SC Lusitania in Portugal's LPB division. In 2018, he signed with Cheshire Phoenix for the 2018/19 BBL campaign[15][16] and Sport Club Lusitânia.[17][18]
