Ashwin Rammohan is an Indian Gastrointestinal, Hepatopancreatobiliary(HPB) and Liver Transplant surgeon, medical academic, writer[1] and a Consultant at the Global Hospitals, Chennai.

Background[edit]

Born in Chennai, India into a family of Army doctors, Ashwin Rammohan was a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, India and later VanaVani School, IIT Madras, Chennai. He did his MBBS from Madras Medical College and MCh from Stanley Medical College,Chennai, India. He is also a Member and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and the Royal College of Physicans & Surgeons of Glasgow.

Academic career[edit]

Dr.Rammohan graduated from Madras Medical College, Chennai, India and did his basic surgical training/surgical residency from Stanley Medical College, Chennai,India. He went on to complete his Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh,UK Membership examinations at the age of 25, one of the youngest ever to do so. He was also awarded the National Gold Medal in General Surgery, for exemplary performance in the General Surgical examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, India.

After having stood first in the Tamil Nadu State Higher Surgical Courses entrance examination, Ashwin Rammohan completed his Higher Surgical training (Magister Chirurgiae (MCh)) in Gastrointestinal and hepato-biliary pancreatic surgery from Stanley Medical College. Here too, he was conferred the best outgoing higher surgical trainee award by Dr.J. Radhakrishnan ,Health Secretary of Tamil Nadu.

Dr.Rammohan went on to complete his higher surgical training fellowships under senior surgeons across the United Kingdom & Europe like Prof. Alfred Cuschieri & Prof. Jacques Marescaux among others, culminating in him being awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow and European Diploma in Visceral Laparoscopic Surgery by examination from the IRCAD-Strasbourg University, France

Dr.Rammohan joined Prof. Mohamed Rela's Transplant team at the Institute of Liver Disease and Transplantation,[2] Global Hospitals, Chennai where he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Liver Transplantation and now works as a Consultant Transplant Surgeon.
