Athar Aamir-ul-Shafi Khan is an Indian bureaucrat and engineer. He serves as the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Chief executive officer to Srinagar Smart City Ltd.

Early life and education[edit]

Aamir was born on 5 September 1992 into a Muslim family in Devipora-Mattan village, Anantnag district of South Kashmir.[1] His father Mohammad Shafi Khan is a teacher who teaches economics at the Government Higher Secondary School in Anantnag and mother Tahira Khan is a homemaker.[2][3] He has one younger brother and two younger sisters.

Aamir completed his Higher Secondary education from Tyndale Biscoe School in Srinagar. After schooling, he did his under graduation from Indian Institute of Technology Mandi and graduated with an Electrical engineering degree.[4] During this time, he came to know about Shah Faesal, the topper of UPSC Civil Services Examination and decided to attempt for the IAS exam.[5]

In 2014, he had cleared a railway exam and was offered a job in the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS). Instead of accepting the offer, he joined the IAS coaching.[6]

In 2016, he cracked the civil service exam (UPSC 2015) with second rank in his first attempt and scored 1018 marks out of 2025 (50.27%).

Career[edit]

In 2016, he got selected into civil service.

He took Rajasthan cadre because of no vacancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his proposal for inter cadre deputation to Jammu and Kashmir for a period of three years.[7]

On 1 March 2021, Aamir joined as the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.[8][9][10] He also hold an additional charge of Chief executive officer to Srinagar Smart City Ltd.[11]

Personal life[edit]

On 20 march 2018, Aamir and Tina had a court marriage in Jaipur by the district collector Siddharth Maharajan. Then they had two wedding celebration, in Kashmir on 7 April 2018 and in Delhi on 14 April 2018. Their wedding reception was attended by Venkaiah Naidu[12], Ravi Shankar Prasad and Sumitra Mahajan. The Hindu Mahasabha called their marriage as love jihad and suggest her to do ghar wapsi (re-convert to Hinduism).[13]

Aamir and Tina first met in 2015 at the IAS felicitation ceremony at the Department of Personnel & Training office in Delhi and fell in love during their IAS training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussorie.[14]

After two years of their marriage, Aamir and Tina filed for divorce in Jaipur family court on November 2020.[15][16] The divorce was finalized by family court No. 1 in Jaipur under Section 28 of the Special Marriage Act on August 10, 2021.[17][18]
