Axie Inifnity: Origin also known as "Battles v3" is the new update of Axie Infinity[1] a video game developed by Sky Mavis, a technology company based in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam.[2]

Unlike the older version of Axie Infinity: Origin also known as Axie Infinity or "v2", Sky Mavis launches Axie Infinity: Origin as a free-to-play title just after a week of the announcement that 173,600 in Etherium (worth US$594.6 million) and US$25.5 million with the total of US$620 million was stolen from their Ronin Network.[3][4] Although Axie Infinity Owner quotes to be "Fully Committed" to reimburse Players after the hack.[5]

Gameplay[edit]

Axie Infinity: Origin is a turn based rougelike deck-building game where the players battle with a pre-made team consisting of 3 Axies.[6] Players are given 3 starter Axies to play and another 2 extra Axies can be unlocked inside Adventure mode. In arena players can choose practice, ranked or Tournament Mode. In Practice Mode, players fight against other players without the fear of reducing your stamina or loosing rank stars and can also get EXP. In Ranked Mode, players can get crafting materials and runes or Charms when winning, players also spend 1 stamina point per ranked game as well as collecting rank stars to boost their rank in the leaderboards.

Axie infinity: Origin gives playes the ability to import Axies they have bought in the Axie Infinity Marketplace to use for battle.

Cards In Axie Inifnity: Origin has been changed and is very different compared to the cards in the previous Axie Infinity version.[7] You have a total of 18 cards in your deck. Each turn you are given 5 random cards from your deck to play. Each card has different effects such as dealing damage, and providing shield as well as healing. Using a card depletes your energy and each card can cost 0-2 energy. Each turn lasts 45 seconds and will end after you have exhausted all your energy, timer runs out, or if you decided to end your turn prematurely.[8]

Gameplay Changes[edit]

Gameplay moved from being a competitive game with an "idle battle" system into a real time strategy rouge-like card building game which is seen as a more competitive game because of its complex nature.[7] And according to Timothy Craig, a journalist from Aberdeen, Scotland

"Compared to the original version of Axie Infinity, Origin has implemented several highly-requested improvements. Turns are sequential, allowing for faster, more dynamic gameplay. Additionally, a player's energy and cards are reset every turn to encourage more aggressive playstyles. Several other gameplay elements have also been revamped. A Rage mechanic has replaced critical hits, Axie's eye and ear attributes now have their own cards, and the new rune and charm mechanics add depth to the game."[9]

New gameplay features as stated in the official Axie Infinity Substack includes:

  • Free starter Axies. Let your friends and family fall in love with Axie before needing to touch crypto and NFTs!
  • Upgraded Axie art makes each Axie more visually distinct and special.
  • Sequential turns for a faster, more dynamic experience.
  • Energy / cards are reset each turn to encourage aggressive play-styles.
  • Card changes. We've kept most cards in line with their original spirit.
  • Eye & Ear Cards. This is the first time that eyes & ears have ever had cards!
  • Runes / Charms as power-ups. Our first glimpse of Axie progression and upgrading is here!
  • Critical Hits have been replaced by a Rage mechanic.

Battle System[edit]

At the start of a battle, the order of turns will be randomly determined at the start of every battle against other players. The player who goes second will have an extra card that gives them free energy, this card will not be discarded if not used. Each turn lasts for 45 seconds, running this timer out will automatically end the turn. A player that has been inactive for 2 consecutive turns will have 10 seconds to be active again or else they will automatically forfeit the match.[8]

Adventure Mode[edit]

Adventure mode is the PvE component of the Axie Infinity: Origin gameplay. According to the official Axie Infinity Support page, this is where you explore the main storyline of the game as you battle different creatures called Chimera to collect rewards, level up your Axies and collecting stars that improves your foraging rewards and unlock milestone rewards. Foraging rewards can be accessed inside the adventure mode on the top right of the interface. Foraging rewards are rewards you earn after time passes, the reward can accumulate even when the game is closed. Foraging is also capped at 12 hours if not claimed.

Arena[edit]

This is where you battle against other players with their own Axie teams. In Arena there are currently three modes, Practice, Ranked, and Tournament Mode. Practice Mode does not have a ranking system unlike Ranked Mode and you only get EXP as a reward. Similar battle systems are implemented in Practice mode and Ranked Mode.[8] Ranked mode, as the name implies, has a ranking system that ranks players to the lowest which is Egg IV to the highest that is Challenger. You start at the very bottom and you earn Victory Stars per win. The higher the Victory Stars you get the higher the rank you will go.[8] In-game tournaments will also be held periodically during the Alpha phase on the Tournament mode which is similar to the Ranked Mode.[8]

Additional Information from the official Axie Infinity: Origin Guide[edit]

  • Practice Mode: This is the training area where you hone your skills without any rank penalties where you are paired against real players or bots if players are not found. Practice mode also gives you the freedom to play without the use of Stamina.
  • Ranked Mode: This has a similar battle system as Practice mode with the added feature of being able to join the leaderboards and climb the ranks.
    • Ranking System: The Ranked mode has 8 Ranks. Which is called the Egg, Chick, Hare, Boar, Wolf, Bear, Tiger, Dragon, and Challenger ranging from lowest to highest respectively. Each rank is subdivided into 4 Tiers, Tier I, II, III and IV, with the highest tier being I and the lowest being IV. In the Challenger rank, no tiers exists.
    • Victory Stars: These are collected by winning battles in Ranked mode. A win gets you 2 Victory Stars, draw gives 0 Victory Stars and a loss deducts 1 Victory Star from your total number of Victory Stars.
    • Stats: Inside Ranked mode, you are given 2 new stats that impacts your earning potential. these are:
      • Stamina: This is recovered every 00:00 UTC everyday and is the equivalent energy in Axie Classic (v2). Each game of rank costs 1 Stamina. Stamina is caped at 60 and is calculated by using this formula . Running out of stamina does not exclude you from battling in Ranked Mode, however, when battling with 0 Stamina you will not get rewards.
      • Ronin Spirit: This determines the amount of SLP you can win from battles. The Ronin Spirit has 4 levels: 0 - I - II - III, which is based in the number of Personal Axies you have on your Ranked mode team.
    • Challenger Sphere & Leaderboards: For the players who have reached the upper ranks of Dragon I or higher, they will be entered into the Challenger Sphere where they will have their names appear on the leaderboards. The Challenger Sphere does not have any Tiers. Instead players will be ranked from lowest to highest depending on their Victory Stars collected from the Challenger Sphere. If a tie occurs where two players have equal amounts of Stars, the win-rate of the players will be the first tie breaker, followed by the total number of Stars collected, then the time required for them to reach the highest Star rank. Any upsets that may have happened such as if a lower-ranked player beating a higher-ranked player happens, the lower-ranked player will receive a Victory Star Bonus and the latter will receive a Victory Star Penalty. And finally if a player from the Challenger Sphere reaches 0 Victory Stars and proceeds to lose the next match, they will be removed from both the Challenger Sphere and the leaderboards.
      • Victory Star Bonus formula:
      • Victory Star Penalty formula:
  • Tournament Mode: Tournaments will be held after the initial Alpha launch of Origin periodically. Information about Tournament Mode will be released after Alpha.
  • Seasons and Rewards: Ranked mode has two different seasons each lasting 2 months with a 1-month off season break. Each season players can receive 2 types of rewards, First-Time rewards which is received each time a Player is Promoted to a new Rank or Tier and End-of-season rewards that are received after the end of the Season.

Runes also come in 4 different rarities, Common, Rare, Epic and Mystic.

Seasonal Runes and Non-Seasonal Runes[edit]

Some runes are seasonal, meaning they can only be used in the current Arena Season. After the Season is over, those Seasonal Runes cannot be used for gameplay and becomes a collectible unlike Non-Seasonal Runes that can be used in the current and future Seasons.

To equip a charm, an Axie must have sufficient Potential Points, Potential Points comes from an Axie's body Class and body parts. With the body of an Axie considered as a part, If an Axie has more than 3 body parts of the same Class, it gains bonus Potential Points of that Class. Equipping a Charm reduces an Axie's available Potential Point of the same equipped Charm Class, if the Charm Class equipped is a Neutral Class, then the Potential Point Class that will be deducted will be based on what the Class of the card that Charm was equipped to.

Seasonal and Non-Seasonal Charms[edit]
