Babajide Agunbiade

Babajide Ademola Agunbiade (born April 16, 1972) is a Nigerian engineer and businessman who is known for his work in Subsea production system. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. He was one of the 13 subject matter experts worldwide in subsea production systems as of 2022.[1]

Agunbiade is the royal chief (Atobaase of Yorubaland) of Oyo State, Nigeria. He holds the highest honorary title of Asiwaju (the leader) of Fiditi. He was named a United Nations U.N. ambassador for sustainable development goals (SDG).[2]

Early life and education[edit]

In 1997, Agunbiade did his Bachelor of Science in Industrial and production engineering from the University of Ibadan.[3][4]

He holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Business administration from American InterContinental University (AIU). He also earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from Higher Place Christian University.[5]

Career[edit]

Agunbiade began his engineering career with Industrial Measurement & Control Limited in Lagos, Nigeria. He continued at General Electric in Houston. He served as Principal Engineer for the $4 billion Duke Energy IGCC (Integrated Gasification in Combined Cycle) project, which resulted in the construction of the first IGCC plant ever in Edwardsport.[6]

In November 2021, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee issued a certificate of U.S. Congressional Recognition to Dr. Agunbiade, designating November 12 as "Atobasse Dr. Babajide Agunbiade Day" in the 18th congressional district of Texas.[7]

In July 2022, Agunbiade was named a United Nations U.N. Ambassador for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).[8]

Recognition[edit]

In Oyo State, Nigeria, Agunbiade and his wife Olufunke Agunbiade were given the titles of His Majesty, Atobaase and Her Majesty, Yeye Atobaase of Yorubaland by the late Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi II, Iku Baba Yeye, and Alaafin of Oyo.[9]
