Basir Ahmed (born 30 April 1998) is a Pakistani screenwriter, director, film composer, multidisciplinary artist and musician.[1][2] Ahmed is known for his crime thriller short film, Baba Jee (2021), starring Hassam Khan and Najaf Bilgrami in lead roles which received international recognition.[2][3]

Biography[edit]

Born in Karachi, Pakistan on the 30th of April, 1998, Ahmed is the youngest child of Pakistani Urdu poet Suhail Ahmed and Gulshan Batool. He is the younger brother of famous Pakistani actor, Hassam Khan and is related to pioneering Lollywood actors, Ajmal Khan and Akmal Khan. Ahmed completed his early education from Foundation Public School and Nixor College respectively. He enrolled into Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture from which he graduated in 2021 with a B. Des in Communication Design.[2]

Career[edit]

Ahmed made his directorial debut with the psychological drama short film, Sir-e-Fehrist (2021), which was officially selected at Sessions by Lift-Off Global Network in the United Kingdom and consequently went on to screen at Pinewood Studios, England. For his thesis project at Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Ahmed created a crime thriller short film, Baba Jee (2021), starring Hassam Khan and Najaf Bilgrami in lead roles.[2] The story revolves around two selfish gangsters who choose to defy their viscous boss in their own ways and end up paying the ultimate price for their disobedience. The short film is currently running the festival circuit and has won two awards so far in the United States, for Ahmed and Khan respectively.[3] Ahmed is also the composer for the upcoming psychological thriller feature film, Azaad, which is currently in pre-production.[4] In 2022, Ahmed was part of Pakistan's first ever online NFT Exhibition, Genesis 50+, curated by Project Zink where he exhibited his sonic art piece, Pr0p3rG@ndA, alongside fifty other artists from around the globe.[5][6]
