Bedouin is a Brooklyn-based production & DJ partnership between nomads Rami Abousabe and Tamer Malki who are creating their own idiosyncratic spell of melodies and rhythms.
Biography[edit]
A DJ and production partnership made up of Tamer Malki and Rami Abousabe, the pair first crossed paths at The BPM Festival in Mexico’s Playa Del Carmen in 2012. Instantly connecting over their similar backgrounds and shared music tastes, Bedouin was born as a platform to showcase their eclectic sonic palette coupled drawing on their shared Middle Eastern heritage, and Western upbring.
Firstly establishing themselves in the hotbed of the Brooklyn underground, it was their Robot Heart bus debut at Burning Man in 2013 coupled with Pete Tong’s support of their first EP ‘Mirage’ on Audiofly’s Supernature Records, that was a major turning point in their budding DJ career that would go on to shape their artistic direction.
Combining their musical backgrounds with ever-evolving tastes, their distinctive sound has attracted the support of some of the industry’s most influential figures such as Pete Tong who featured them on his prestigious BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix in 2016. Pioneering a deep meditative style, Bedouin’s releases have been charted on top labels including Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, and All Day I Dream. Forming a close relationship with label head Lee Burridge, the duo have performed at his legendary label events in Barcelona, Miami, Zurich and San Francisco as well as putting out two records, “Straight To The Heart” and “Flight of Birds” on the acclaimed label. Having released their hit remake of Pink Floyd’s iconic “Set Control For The Heart Of The Sun” on Crosstown Rebels in 2017, their production was then remixed by Israeli pioneer Guy Gerber, who invited the duo to play at his RUMORS residency in Ibiza.
Armed with a legion of dedicated fans, 2018 was without a doubt another landmark year for the duo. Making their Coachella debut at the famed Yuma tent, Bedouin also enjoyed a packed European schedule which included extended sets at Scorpios in Mykonos. With the White Isle continuing to keep a close eye on their rapid ascent, Bedouin were invited to perform at World UNESCO site Dalt Vila during the culmination of International Music Summit as well as helming nights at some of the island’s most well- known clubs like Circoloco at DC-10, Ushuaïa and the award-winning Hï Ibiza.
In November 2018, Bedouin released their ‘Wastelands’ EP on Crosstown Rebels to much acclaim. Comprised of two tracks, the title track was premiered on Billboard and described as “the perfect groove to help you explore your mind, body and soul.” Pronounced a “classic Burning Man deep jam, full of deep, desert groove” by DJ Mag, “Flamma” completed the release as an exemplary example of Bedouin’s artful approach to melodic deep grooves and instrumental sounds.
Saga[edit]
Since its inception in 2017, Bedouin’s Ibiza residency, Saga, quickly cemented itself as one of the island’s most revered parties, celebrated by locals and visitors alike.[1]
In 2017, Guy Laliberté handpicked Bedouin to helm Sunday nights at his HEART nightclub in Ibiza over the summer. Quickly establishing themselves as one of the island’s most compelling acts, the first season of their avant-garde SAGA residency was hailed as “one of the most successful season residency debuts of all time” by Pete Tong. Additional SAGA installments soon followed with the North American debut of the popular event series in their hometown of Brooklyn in December 2017 as well as in Miami during Miami Music Week in February 2018. Invited back to host a second consecutive season at the landmark Ibiza nightclub, Bedouin again presented an impeccably curated and diverse selection of some of the world’s most sought-after artists alongside their signature production and performers.
