Beer o'clock (term):
Script error: No such module "AfC submission catcheck".
As the term is becoming widely spread in Australia I thought it might be worth recording just how this phrase/ term /title came to be.
in 1988 I returned from Broken Hill to start a new position as a Soil Tester in Brisbane, Queensland. Out typical day was from 7am to 5pm with a lunch break, but at 5pm the workers could buy a beer for $1 (yes $1.00 !).
On one particularly hot day, I asked our Laboratory Manager (at 4:45pm), if it was "Beer o'clock yet?" The term stuck and as people move about and terms get used it slowly became a more widely used expression until one day I heard it being used on the radio. Not a particularly interesting story, but the truth sometimes isn't. Cheers!!
