Benson Mhando

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Benson Mhando (born June 27, 1988)[1], better known by his stage name Flier, is a Kenyan singer, songwriter, rapper and record producer based in Nairobi.

Career

In February 2020, Flier released his debut EP, Sketches for streaming on Soundcloud and as a free download on Bandcamp. Inspired by an Instagram video of a guy talking about The Lean Startup Strategy, by Eric Ries. Seven songs, all recorded and mixed in seven days as a way of fighting perfectionism, procrastination, writer’s block and self-doubt.

Early Life

As a child, Flier fell in love with drawing and would often fall asleep right next to the pencil and pad. Years later, not much has changed with this young artist. Some ask, what made him quit drawing and turn to poetry and beats. His answer, “I never stopped, I simply changed my tools.” Nowadays he paints pictures in minds with words and sounds.

Flier brings together many different musical genres in his music. A style that developed from his early production days of creating beats on Fl Studio from Soul, Jazz and Kenyan Folk records.

“Genre is a social construct” Flier adds “There’s only good or bad music (And even that’s debatable)"

A storyteller accompanying his tales with intricate drums, synthesizers, strings and varied instrumentation. Flier[2] has dedicated his life to making music that he loves. The type he grew up listening to… before everyone started sounding the same.
