Bevan Chuang

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Bevan Ka Yan Chuang (born 1981) is a Hong Kong-born[1] community figure in Auckland, New Zealand. She is well known in Auckland's Chinese community for her roles in community organisations and among the greater New Zealand community for her sexual liaison with Auckland mayor Len Brown, which was called "the biggest sex scandal in New Zealand public life".[2][3] She has served as chair of the Asian Women and Family Trust and co-hosted a program on Chinese Radio, an Auckland radio station.[4] She became a member of the Auckland Council's Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel in August 2011.[4][5] In 2013 she ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Albert-Eden Local Board.[6]

In 2011 and 2012, Chuang engaged in a public outreach campaign to find a suitable man to impregnate her soon enough to be able to bear a "dragon baby", a child born in the Year of the Dragon.[1][7]

Chuang acknowledged to the Whale Oil blog in October 2013 that for two years she was Auckland mayor Len Brown's mistress.[6]

Chuang has a previous criminal conviction for accessing emails of her former employer. She applied for but was denied a discharge without conviction in relation to this offence.[8]

On December 20, 2013, Ali Ikram chose Chuang as "Nightline's New Zealander of the Year".[9] Ikram broadcast a five-minute interview with Chuang, where he gave her an opportunity to reveal aspects of her life unrelated to the scandal (which scandal?). For the interview the pair met in a park, where she shared her expertise in the Japanese meme of the "Gothic Lolita". Chuang conducted the interview in apparel associated with the character of a "Gothic Lolita".
