The Birthday Party is a political party in the United States. It was founded in July 2020 during the 2020 United States presidential election by American rapper and entrepreneur Kanye West. The party's founding was publicly announced 3 days after West announced he was running for president of the United States.[1][2][3]

The party has no publicly available platform or positions, although West himself is seen as right-wing.[4]

2020 election[edit]

On July 4, West announced his campaign on Twitter, writing "We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! 🇺🇸 #2020VISION"[5]. Various sources questioned whether West was truly running for president or not,[6] as his announcement came after the filing deadlines to run for a major party in all 50 states and most primary elections. He also missed at least six states' deadlines to appear on the ballot as an independent candidate.[7] On July 7, West argued that he could gain access to appear on ballots beyond their deadline due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[1]

On July 7, West announced in many interviews that he was running under a new party, the Birthday Party, stating "when we win, it's everybody's birthday". He also announced his running mate will be Michelle Tidball, a preacher from Wyoming, and that his wife Kim Kardashian, and SpaceX and Tesla, Inc. CEO Elon Musk, will be his campaign advisors.[1][2]

The Birthday Party currently has no ballot access in any states.[citation needed] West stated that if Donald Trump weren't president, he would have run as a Republican instead.[1]
