Bit8 is a Maltese company that offers an artificial intelligence software platform for a number of online gambling products, such as casino, poker, sports betting and lottery to various operators worldwide. As of 19 October 2017, Bit8 operates as a subsidiary of Intralot.[2][3][4]

Bit8 was founded in July 2010 by Angelo Dalli[5], Keith Galea and Brian Fenech and provides platform solutions to the online gaming and online gambling market.
Bit8 was one of the first companies that applied artificial intelligence in the online gambling industry[6], with the most notable work being on algorithms that estimate and maximise player lifetime value and personalised bonusing systems.[7] These techniques have since been widely adopted by the online gambling industry[8] and earned it various innovation awards, including EGR's Rising Star award in 2014 [9][10], the Malta Communication Authority eBusiness Award for the Best B2B application in 2015[11], and the Malta iGaming Award for Excellence in 2017[12]. Bit8 has also represented Malta as a national winner of the European Business Awards in 2015.[13][14]
Intralot Acquisition[edit]
Bit8 entered into a long-term strategic alliance with Intralot in 2014 to provide Intralot’s global customer base with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Player Account Management (PAM) services and gaming platform solutions. [15] Intralot subsequently announced that it will buy a 35% stake in Bit8 during ICE Totally Gaming in London.[16]
Commenting on the strategic alliance, Malta's prime minister Joseph Muscat said that: "The strategic alliance of Intralot and Bit8 set the example for other sectors of the Maltese economy. We are very satisfied to see innovative Maltese companies with clear vision becoming an international leader in its field and attract global investors. Both investors and consumers need a regulated environment and Malta is making great strides towards this direction.” [17]
Bit8 and Intralot collaborated on a number of international projects, focusing on national lotteries, in Europe, Australia and South America using the PULSE product brand[18]. In 2017, Intralot completed the full acquisition of Bit8 and subsequently made changes to the management team while keeping it is a separate independent entity. A new CEO, Vassilis Trochalidis, was appointed in December 2017, with Angelo Dalli staying on as a board member. [19]
