Brian de Haaff (Co-founder and CEO of Aha!)

Brian de Haaff is an American entrepreneur[1] and bestselling author[2]. He is the co-founder and CEO of Aha!, a product development software company, and the author of Lovability (2017). He frequently shares his philosophy on building businesses and products on the Aha! blog and The Startup Adventure newsletter.

Education

de Haaff graduated cum laude from the University of California, Berkeley[3] and later earned a master's degree in marketing from Northwestern University.

Career

de Haaff spent his early career as a product marketing and product management leader at several cloud-based software companies. In 2007, he became CEO[4] of Wi-Fi security startup Network Chemistry, which was acquired acquired by Aruba Networks later that year.

In late 2007, he co-founded Paglo, the world's first search engine for IT teams, with Dr. Chris Waters. In 2010, Citrix Online acquired Paglo[5] and integrated its technology into the GoToAssist line of products.

In April 2013, de Haaff and Waters co-founded Aha! in Menlo Park, California. The company was entirely distributed[6] from the start — employees work remotely[7] from anywhere in the United States and select international locations. The company is also self-funded[8], a decision that de Haaff says he made in order to grow[9] the business sustainably[10] and focus on delivering the greatest value to customers and teammates alike. He writes about the risks of accepting venture capital funding and introduced the Bootstrap Movement, his philosophy for how founders and employees can be self-reliant and create greater value with less waste.

In 2022, de Haaff announced[11] that Aha! surpassed $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR). The company has also donated more than $1 million[12] to people in need through Aha! Cares, its philanthropic giving program.
