Bright Planet is a nonprofit organization in Miami, Florida. The organization was established in 2019 by Benjamin Pla. The organization has been dedicated to improving conditions within rural areas in developing nations by providing renewable energy sources. As of now, the organization's major project is providing renewable energy sources in the form of Solar Panels to the town of Dutch Komenda in Western Ghana. The organization is made up primarily of high school students who form volunteer teams to travel to the select developing nation of their mission and set up the renewable energy source themselves, which provides an experience for them to change the world on a substantial level, and battle the harsh effects of climate change by providing a clean source of energy.

History

Bright Planet was an idea thought of by Benjamin Pla within his High School Freshman Year Inquiry Skills class. His teacher tasked him with creating an invention which could help people. While originally he thought of a portable windmill, as he had heard of a student in another period who envisioned a portable cooler, he decided to settle upon the conventional solar panel as the primary focus for the first trip. While originally the idea had been left to simmer for the remainder of the school year, he took action upon it during the 2019 summer and created a social media presence to gain support for the organization. As of now, the organization is raising funds to go on their first mission trip in the summer of 2020.
