Brown Living is an Indian ecommerce marketplace aggregator for plastic free products. Founded by Chaitsi Ahuja in 2019, it is India's first Plastic-free e-commerce platform and has over 1,35,000+ products.
Overview
Founded in 2019 by Chaitsi Ahuja in Mumbai, Brown Living currently has over 1,35,000 products from over 550+ sellers across the country.[1] They cater to over 220 categories from travel to home and living, fashion, personal care, pet care among many.[2] The platform curates products that are natural, sustainable, handmade, up-cycled, recycled, thrifted, earth-friendly, and are an alternative to plastics.[3] Brown Living claims that a part of their profits is invested in tree plantation to offset the carbon footprint generated through products.[4]
The sellers on their platform use the backend system to list the products on the platform’s website; the sellers use the backend panel to control inventory and order fulfilment on their end.[5] The curation team asks the proper questions of creators, assesses products holistically, and employs a proprietary framework called ‘The Brown Lens’ to find the ideal products for a consumer.[6]
Brown Living claims that they were able to prevent 2,80,000+ kgs of plastic from ending up in landfills and the ocean, lessen the plastic footprint of over 70,000 consumers, and plant over 28,600+ trees across eight regions of India.[7]
