Bruise Violet is an American feminist punk-rock band formed in Minneapolis in 2014. The band consists of drummer Danielle Cusack, guitarist Emily Schoonover, and bassist Bella Dawson.
History[edit]
Bruise Violet formed in early 2014. The group found local success in the Twin Cities metro area after adding current bassist, Bella Dawson in December 2014. The band's maiden EP, Survival of the Prettiest, was released on August 29, 2015. Bruise Violet has also been featured on the local radio station The Current many times along with print outlets City Pages and the Star Tribune. Bruise Violet has played with bands/artists such as Soul Asylum, Kitten Forever, upset, Tommy Stinson, Gramma's Boyfriend, and Colleen Green. They also won several local awards, including placing second in City Page's "Best New Band" poll, behind Bad Bad Hats.[1]
Music[edit]
Bruise Violet takes inspiration from female fronted punk bands such as Babes in Toyland, Screaming Females, Bikini Kill, and Childbirth.[2] Their music is self-described as "angry feminist punk music with three part vocal harmony." Lead vocals alternate between the three members, all formally trained.
