Bryce Watanasoponwong (Thai: ไบรซ์ วัฒนโสภณวงศ์; born Wongkot Watanasoponwong, Thai: วงกต วัฒนโสภณวงศ์; nicknamed Gòk, Thai: กก)[lower-alpha 1] is a Thai–Australian photographer and gallerist based in Bangkok. A self-taught artist, he combines analogue and digital methods to explore colour, memory, perception, and mental well-being through abstract imagery. His work has been covered by publications including National Geographic, Creative Boom[1], Life Framer, and L’Œil de la Photographie.
Bryce gained early recognition at the Missouri Photo Workshop in 2013 and later presented his solo exhibition Saving Face (2021) at River City Bangkok, which examined cultural attitudes to appearance in Thai society. In 2024 he founded The Charoen AArt, an independent, artist-run space. As a gallerist and curator, he has hosted exhibitions by other artists, including TENÚ (2024) by Yasy Bachurina and STRATUM (2025) by Illya Skubak. In 2025 he participated as a guest curator at the Experimental Photo Festival in Barcelona and discussed values-based gallery practice with Artsy.
Early life and education
Born in Thailand, Bryce lived in Australia for nearly two decades. He is commonly known as Bryce and nicknamed Gòk in Thailand. Before pursuing art full-time, he held executive roles in Thailand's real estate and hospitality sectors.[2] During the COVID-19 pandemic, he transitioned to a full-time artistic practice. He is a self-taught artist whose work explores the relationship between colour, emotion, and mental well-being.
Career and exhibitions
Bryce gained early recognition at the Missouri Photo Workshop in 2013, where he documented life in Trenton, Missouri.[3][4]
In 2021, he was mentioned in a National Geographic article on Bangkok’s growing creative scene.[5] Later that year, from 30 October to 5 December, he presented his solo exhibition Saving Face at River City Bangkok,[6] which explored cultural perceptions of appearance in Thai society.[7] He was profiled by the Bangkok Post for his interest in inclusion and emotional expression through abstract forms.[8] Following the exhibition, he was selected as an artist-in-residence at the centre,[9] and a video of the show was later published by Global Travel Mate.[10]
In March 2024, Bryce opened The Charoen AArt in his former family home with the group exhibition Dawn of Prosperity: Cultural Renaissance.[11] In September 2024, the gallery hosted TENÚ, a solo exhibition by Yasy Bachurina.[12] In 2025, it presented STRATUM by Illya Skubak, featuring engraved basalt works and digital installations reflecting environmental themes.[13]
In May 2025, Bryce was interviewed by Artsy, where he described sales as a collaborative outcome rather than the sole responsibility of either the gallery or the artist.[14] Between 22 and 26 July 2025, he participated in the Experimental Photo Festival in Barcelona as a guest curator.[15]
Bryce is a featured photographer on Life Framer,[16] and has been profiled in the French journal L’Œil de la Photographie.[17]
Artistic practice
Bryce’s work is rooted in experimentation, blending analogue photography, digital manipulation, and printing techniques.[18] He describes his process as emotionally driven, using colour as a gateway to self-discovery and healing.[19] “The colours speak before the subject,” he said in a 2021 interview, reflecting on how his palette guides the emotional register of his work.[20] One of his works, Continuity, exemplifies this layered visual language and is featured on Artsy.[21] His projects include photobooks, prints, installations, and hybrid media formats.
