Burwood Public School is a co-educational primary school located in the suburb of Burwood, NSW, Australia. Currently, the school caters for over 600 students from Kindergarten to Year 6.[1]

History[edit]

Burwood Public School officially opened on the 16th of January 1871 by James McCredie (who was also the first principal) in the presence of many locals and many notable men from Sydney. The original 1871 building was roughly 16.5 metres by 6.4 metres with 2 classrooms and a toilet outside. In the first year, enrolment rose from 67 to 139, but by 1900, the school had more than 1,100 students.[2][3]
