butN (Business Travel Networking) is an online business networking service which was established in 2013. Robin Chater is Founder and CEO.[1] The company is owned by the services company of the non-profit Federation of International Employers. The domain name record of but-n.com shows that website was launched in October 2014.[2] butN has not shared details about its number of users.
butN allows those subject to business travel to make contact with other people in professional and executives jobs whilst they are on the move, with a view to meeting them face-to-face. Users can connect their butN profile to their LinkedIn account and find which users of their LinkedIn network are nearby.[3]

butN was established as an initiative by the Federation of International Employers, also known as FedEE Global, which was formed in 1988 with financial support from the European Commission. Today FedEE is Chaired by the Ford Motor Company and is a private company limited by guarantee (nonprofit/NGO) [4] The beta version of butN is released in 2014.
Features[edit]
As mentioned on their website [5] a person can expand their business network, create and attend events and share their location. The principal innovatory features of the butN system are (taken together):
- A focus on meeting one-to-one rather than purely online.
- Multiple interlocking methods to determine a user's location.
- The combining of user schedules/diary entries with their location determination.
- A facility to search profiles of other users within a particular parameter such as job function, gender and proximity.
- The keeping of confidential notes on contacts within the system
- A simple way to sever connections from anyone without the need to explain the decision.
- A highly democratic approach to the organisation of collective gatherings - or "events" as butN calls them.
- A number of ways to determine when an existing contact is once again in a user's proximity
Reviews[edit]
In Australia where the site’s beta testing is in progress, the reviews given by media have mentions that butN is a cross between Tinder and LinkedIn.[6] Media in neighboring New Zealand has given a different review saying that this would actually benefit New Zealand.[7]
Achievements[edit]
Trademark approval for butN was gained in 2014 to cover the European Union [8] and Norway [9] Other applications for the USA, India, China, Switzerland and other important markets are in the pipeline.[10]
The site remains a full web-based service, but it has been designed to have fully scalability for use on handhelds. An App will follow when special features are launched for use on smartphones. Different language versions of butN will also be available soon, beginning with Chinese and Japanese [11]
