The CDU Thuringia (German: CDU Thüringen) is the regional state association of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) in the Free State of Thuringia. With 8,465 members (as of July 2021), it is the largest state association of all parties in Thuringia.
The CDU Thuringia was founded on July 20, 1945. During the Soviet occupation, it merged into the East German Christian Democratic Union, where it was later divided into the three successor districts of Erfurt, Suhl and Gera as a regional association after the dissolution of Thuringia in 1952. With the re-establishment of the state of Thuringia on July 22, 1990, during the democratization process in East Germany, the CDU Thuringia was also re-established at the same time.
From 1990 to 2014, the CDU Thuringia was always the governing party in Thuringia and even governed with an absolute majority from 1999 to 2009. The CDU Thuringia has been in opposition since the 2014 state election.
